Scope and Contents: The Old Settlers' Society of Logan County was an organization of Illinois pioneers and their descendants. The Society defined a pioneer as anyone who settled Illinois prior to 1840, with much prestige associated with anyone who settled in the area prior to the winter of 1830-31. The Society's annual meeting usually took place during the fall in the Mt. Pulaski and Lincoln area, where members shared their memories and recollections of earlier times.
This collection consists of a microfilm copy of a record of the annual meetings of the Society from 1873 to 1911. The original manuscripts were lost but the minutes of the annual meetings were recreated by Frank Fisk, secretary, who gathered the information from various newspapers sources. In the record book, Fisk tells of his involvement with the Society, how the records were lost, and how he retrieved them. The collection contains the results of elections, the constitution, lists of members, notices of their deaths, and clippings from an unidentified newspaper from 1903 to 1906. Information about the meetings includes such data as date, place, time of day, weather, attendance, the speakers and the content of their recollections. An index gives the page on which notes of the various annual meetings can be found.
