The Brichford Collection consists of political ephemera, largely campaign flyers promoting candidates for local, state, or national offices. Both Champaign and Urbana, Illinois, elections are represented. While a few items date to the 1970s, most originated in the 1980s. The collection also contains miscellaneous political mailings from local politicians and political groups, newspaper clippings concerning central Illinois Congressman William L. Springer, and election day supplements from local newspapers. Political figures represented include Terry Bruce, Daniel B. Crane, Charles H. Percy, Helen Satterthwaite, and Virgil Wikoff.
University Archivist Maynard J. Brichford donated most of the items in the collection to the Illinois Historical Survey in the period 1982-1987. The Survey staff supplemented the collection with several related items.
