Clayton F. Daughterty (1899-1990) was a Lncoln collector and researcher who lived most of his life in Champaign County, Ill. He spend over fifty years studying Abraham Lincoln's career as a lawyer, focusing on his legal work in Urbana, Ill.
This collection includes Daughterty' research notes on Lincoln in Champaign County as well as photocopies of documents from Champaign County court cases involving Lincoln. In addition, the collection contains Daughterty's research on notable figures, such as J.O. Cunningham, David David, B.F. Harris, and James Lyons, and information on agriculture, inns and taverns, and other aspects of early life in Champaign County.
The Denver Public Library and the Urbana Free Library arranged for the gift of the collection from Daughterty's widow, Ossic, to the Illinois Historical Survey in 2002.
