Library IT Workstation and Network Support

The Workstation and Network Support (WNS) group is responsible for the installation, maintenance and support of the Library networked computing hardware and software infrastructure, including approximately 1000 workstations and laptops, peripherals, and network printers that serve Library Faculty, Staff, and patrons.

The WNS group works primarily in three areas:

System Administration

The WNS group installs and maintains workstations for staff and public patron usage. Our responsibilities include:
  • Installs, replaces, and maintains staff, public, and classroom computers
  • Operating system and software installations and updates
  • Active Directory and Group Policy Management
  • Maintains and installs printers
  • Hardware lifecycle management
Network Administration

The WNS group provides network access and maintains a secured networked environment (antivirus, patching applications, and preventing malware) for all desktop machines. We serve as the primary contact for CITES LAN Maintenance and Campus Network Design Office.

User Support

We collaborate with the IT Help Desk and the IT IMS units to provide system services and are often involved in resolving support questions. Additionally, we provide technology workflow and business process consulting, and our staff occasionally provides training to Library employees.
