Connect to Online Journals and Databases
Anyone with an internet connection can view the Online Journals and Databases public interface.
The Online Journals and Databases is an alphabetical listing of online journals, newspapers, databases, article indices, and many other digital publications used for scholarly research, and is a component of the Discover/SFX full text linking service. Most of the publications available in the Online Journals and Databases list are licensed by the University Library for use by members of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign community.
When is this service available?
The Online Journals and Databases public interface is normally available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Priority level for this service
Maintaining the Online Journals and Newspapers public interface is a critical priority for Library IT. We make every effort to resolve problems with this service as quickly as possible.
Problems with remote (off-campus) access to the Online Journals and Newspapers public interface are resolved as quickly as possible.
Problems with individual databases and other specific information resources listed in the Online Journals and Newspapers public interface are dealt with during normal business hours by the Library’s Electronic Resources Support.
How to report a problem
If the Online Journals and Databases public interface is down or not responding to search requests, please log a ticket with the IT Help Desk or call the Help Desk at 244-4688. Incoming tickets and calls are reviewed and prioritized as they arrive between 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Tickets or calls coming in after hours are reviewed promptly on the next business day.
If it is outside normal business hours (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday) and you believe there is a widespread outage, please call 244-4688 and leave a message with the Library IT Help Desk answering service (aka the AITS Service Desk). In an emergency situation the answering service will contact Library IT on-call support staff promptly.
If the Online Journals and Databases public interface is running but you cannot connect to specific individual information resources, email Electronic Resources Support to report the problem or use the feedback links provided within the Online Journals and Databases public interface.
Who can use this service?
The Online Journals and Newspapers website is publicly accessible to users worldwide. Most of the licensed information resources listed in the list are available only to members of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign community, but many other materials in the list are freely available to all.
University-licensed information resources are available from computers located on campus within designated campus IP address ranges. Members of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign community who connect to Online Journals and Databases from off-campus locations can login to the licensed information resources using the proxy server.
What you must have to use this service
The primary Service Manager is Wendy Shelburne in the Acquisitions Unit.
IT Infrastructure and Software Development hosts the servers and manages the underlying database and software.
The Library’s Content Access Management (CAM) and Acquisitions unit is responsible for managing ORR data records and troubleshooting user access problems with the information resources available via Online Journals and Databases.
