How to Add a Shared Mailbox in Outlook 2013

If you work at multiple workstations, you need to add the shared mailbox on each computer following the steps listed below:

  1. In Outlook 2013, go to File -> Info tab, under Account Information click the Add Account buttonInfo: Account information. @illinois.edu. Microsoft Exchange. Add Account.
  2. The Add Account window pops up, in the E-mail Address field, enter the shared mailbox address, for example: “undergrad@library.illinois.edu“, leave all other fields blank, and then click NextAuto account setup: Outlook can automatically configure many email accounts. E-mail account. Your name. Example: Ellen Adams. E-mail address: undergrad@library.illinois.edu. Example: ellen@contoso.com. Password, retype password: type the password your internet service provider has given you. Manual setup or additional server types. back, next, cancel.
  3. After the account is found successfully, check the box for Change account settings and click NextCongratulations! Configure: outlook is completing the setup for your account.   4. Uncheck the box for Use Cached Exchange Mode, and click FinishAdd account. Server settings: enter the microsoft exchange server settings for your account. Server settings: server: casarray.mx.uillinois.edu. User name: undergraduate library, check name. offline settings: use cached exchange mode: Mail to keep offline. back, finish, cancel.
  5. A message pops up informing you that these changes will take effect after you restart Outlook. Click OK then close Outlook.Microsoft Outlook: You must restart Outlook for these changes to take effect. Ok.
  6. Restart Outlook. It will ask for a user name and password to access the new sharedmail mailbox. Use your NetID and Active Directory password, and check the box for Remember my credentials.Windows Security. Microsoft Outlook: Connecting to sec@library.illinois.edu. User name, password, domain: UOFI. Remember my credentials. ok, cancel.
  7. You’ll see the new shared mailbox listed in the left panel under your own Outlook account.
