1.                   Approve Minutes from November 4
Approval of minutes was deferred to the next meeting.
2.                  Question Time
A personnel issue was discussed.

3.                  Hiring Plan requests for February
The deadline for submissions for the February 2014 hiring plan is end of day today. Greg Knott will be invited to a future meeting to discuss the personnel budget.

John would like EC and the AULs to discuss general priorities before they discuss hiring priorities together[WDJ1] .
4.                  Statement on Promotion & Tenure – update
Since this Statement articulates Library-specific criteria for promotion and tenure, as expected/required by University Statutes and Provost Communication #9, it needs to be kept up to date. PTAC will be asked to carefully review the Statement and provide recommendations for any revisions as warranted. Mary and Tim will work together to produce a charge for this updating process. Any revised/updated statement will be presented at a faculty meeting for discussion and potential action.
5.                  Faculty reporting lines
This discussion centered on the language in job postings and the reference to whom an individual reports. EC would like to talk to Beth Woodard about the appropriate language. EC also noted that position descriptions need to be more consistent, and that a checklist of the language that needs to be in a position description would be helpful. Chris Prom volunteered to work on a check list.

EC also feels the “Distinctions in Expectations and Responsibilities between Senior Library Specialist, Library Operations Associate, Academic Professional, and Library Faculty Positions,” document should have consistent language regarding research. Faculty set and manage their own research agendas; but the librarianship component of their position is carried out under the direction of the head of their unit.
6.                  Law Librarian Position

EC discussed the job announcement for this position, which has now been posted. John Wilkin and Bill will meet with the chair of the search committee to discuss the process of hiring this position. In particular, it needs to be made clear that it is the University Library’s promotion and tenure procedures that will govern the promotion and tenure process for the appointee.
