      1. propose adding agenda item for EC: conference attendance support continuation for LSSC CSE library scholarships (specifically asking for future continuation of CSE professional development opportunities, specifically these scholarship awards, and their value to staff and greater library)

      2. Contact in Business office to help register awardees

Minutes for March 25, 2021 meeting

Approve November Minutes: Approved with one correction.

Liaison Reports and Updates:

Administration: No updates

Administrative Council:  discussed the student code located on the UIUC website article 2, part 4 – University Property and Facilities – In General “Library Regulations” The below discussions will be taken back to the committee.

  • Discussion on updating language to speak more to the students and being less specific in some cases.  The title “Library Regulations” was mentioned as it does not go with the scope.
  • Discussion on overdue fines, in particular that undergrad students are not charged for materials overdue, only for reserves, DVD’s, re-calls, lost books.
  • Re-calls were also mentioned questioning if students know what re-calls mean.

Area Studies:  Discussions were not of importance to LSSC.

Arts & Humanities:  Talked about collection development and where they can reduce funding, such as end of year unspent funds, journals.

Central Public Services:  Informed that the collection development committee minutes & agenda are available online.  Locker pick up is busy.

Central Access Service: Kristen reported that the 5-year Unit Head Review Committee is getting feedback from other units as well as stakeholders. More information can be found here:

UGL: talked about the summer being similar with services as it is now with appointments for study spaces and locker pick up.  Will be discussing the return to work plan.

Law:  Tuesdays & Thursdays 9-4 closed study spaces for social distance

Life Sciences:   ACES panel discussion:  Solving the World’s Challenges is an annual event, in April, that brings together scholars from different departments to share their research related to a challenge in the world. Following the presentation, panelists take questions from the audience and each other. Physical Sciences:  Did not meet

Residence Hall:  Res Hall asked Res Hall Librarians for Recommendations on budget for the res hall libraries.

Special Collections: Each library working on their own videos & tutorials; no news on building project.

Discussion on creating specialty masks for special collections to give as outreach or self-use, or within unit.

Technical Services:  Did not meet

Preservation: Emergency access digitization support:  Now have two pieces of equipment, DYI station, and a station called ADAM.

    • LSSC BOX Folder for all members to be involved.
    • LSSC looking for a better knowledge of what they want us to provide for feedback
  • Propose adding agenda item for EC: conference attendance support continuation for LSSC CSE library scholarships (specifically asking for future continuation of CSE professional development opportunities, specifically these scholarship awards, and their value to staff and greater library)
    • Ask for Administrative Support for LSSC in place of AUL.

    3. In the past, has staff participation in conferences been based around the number of staff attending, or the amount of money allocated towards conference fees? If virtual attendance is so much more affordable, why not send more people?

    • Karen Huck hosting a reading group on April 20th 2-3. Questions will be based on specific articles.
