- Welcome and Introductions
- Agenda Review
- Susan went over the agenda, no additions were proposed by committee members.
- Acclamations, Accolades, Announcements – none
- Professional Development Series Planning
- Session dates and details were confirmed.
- Lecture on Working with International Students will be held on March 30th from 1-2pm.
- Three ESL lecturers will be leading.
- Topics will include: working with international students in the classroom and strategies we can employ at service desks to ensure students are comprehending what we are saying.
- Committee members were asked to brainstorm questions to ask during the session in advance.
- Framework Discussion will be held on April 27th from 12-1pm
- Susan asked the committee whether they would prefer to hold this session in the 1-2pm time block to match with the ESL lecture, the committee affirmed this choice. Susan will reach out to change the time of this workshop.
- Topics will include: a short discussion on how the Taskforce decided to develop the Framework and then an overview of and perspectives on how to think about the Framework for instruction.
- The committee discussed planning a longer training for Summer 2018.
- Student Learning Outcome Plan (Jen-chien)
- Jen-chien discussed the U of I’s plan to collect SLOs for re-accreditation. Each program must generate an SLO plan, and the Library has put together a taskforce to plan for generating this.
- Jen-chien provided context for SLO plans and shared some of what the taskforce has been considering when thinking about the Library’s SLO plan
- The nine goals from the Office of Information Literacy were discussed, some committee members expressed interest in updating these goals in future semesters.
- The committee was asked to provide feedback on: how to assess student learning on the programmatic level, how do you know students are learning, and how to tell if improvements have been effective?
- Kirsten Feist mentioned the possible need for the development of wider learning outcomes for all library instruction, similar to the SLOs for all undergraduate students.
- Jen-chien encouraged committee members to attend the Assess and Connect Workshop Thursday, March 15th 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
