Minutes

1. Welcome and Introductions

Mark explained to the committee that he took a job at another university and will be leaving July 24. He then introduced Jessica, who works in Research and Information Services and is new to the committee. Emily introduced herself as an Research and Information Services GA who will be helping take minutes at future meetings. Lisa thanked Beth, Jameatris, and Scott for their work as their committee appointments are ending. Lisa also stated that this was the last User Education Committee meeting until September.

2. Agenda Review

There were no revisions.

3. Acclamations and Accolades

Lisa shared that she awarded the 2015 ACRL/IS Miriam Dudley Instruction Librarian Award at the ALA Annual Conference.

4. LibGuides 2.0 Migration

Crystal reported that preparation for the migration to LibGuides 2.0 was going well. She is finalizing details for migration, which will occur on July 24. She also explained that there will be a workshop on Tuesday July 14 at 1:00pm for an overview of the migration and how LibGuides needs to be edited before the July 24.

Crystal also mentioned that there will be workshops in August about using LibGuides 2.0 that are open to all.

5. Library Gateway and WordPress

Jemma explained that Chris Prom sent out an email early in July with details about the gateway transition, which is almost finished and will make give the homepage a cleaner appearance overall. The markup is almost finalized, and they are now working on the graphic elements. Content migration should begin in mid-September.

The library will most likely be using both the CMS and WordPress for a considerable period of time as the web team continues to transition the entire website to WordPress. All departmental webpages will be starting the new semester in August with CMS and so new GAs will need to be trained in the CMS. Suzanne Chatman, the new User Experience Librarian, will be able to bring her expertise to this project when she starts in the fall.

6. LEARN/UGL Webpages/LibGuides Content Review

Mark reported that he is a part of a group that is currently assessing the library’s instruction webpages. The group is made up of Kirsten Feist, Susan Avery, Jessica Moyer, Mark (who will be replaced by Nicole Helregel), and Crystal Sheu. Mark will be handing off leadership of the group to Susan Avery when he leaves this month. The group met with Chris Prom to assess what was available on the LEARN webpages and how to assess these pages from a higher level, keeping what was needed and re-creating what is necessary. The team hopes to reduce redundancies in the library’s website with this change.

6.5 LibAnswers

Lisa and Crystal introduced the library’s new FAQ tool, LibAnswers, to the committee. This tool, which is provided by Springshare, will replace FAST Answers this fall. Although WordPress does have a FAQ plugin, the library needed a faster solution that could be implemented by the beginning of this fall. Funding for LibAnswers comes out of the Office of User Services.

After FAST Answers, the next content migration into LibAnswers will be from the Rolodex maintained by Research and Information Services. After this transition, other units in the library will be able to being using it.

7. FirstSearch WorldCat to WorldCat Discovery Transition

Lisa reminded the group of an email that she and Bill Mischo had sent recently as co-chairs of the Library’s Discovery and Delivery Study Team that detailed how the library will be switching from FirstSearch WorldCat to WorldCat Discovery, which is planned for July 30. This new version of WorldCat will also be included as a target in Easy Search. Training sessions for WorldCat Discovery are planned for July 30 and 31.

8. AUL for User Services Search

Lisa reminded committee members that interviews for the new Associate University Librarian for User Services will be held soon, and she encouraged everyone to participate and give feedback to the search committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Emily Hardesty
