- 10:30-11:15am Collections discussion
- Discuss autoship plan for LSD with Lynn Wiley and George Gottschalk (See email that Sarah forwarded on 1/24/2018)
- History:
- The approval fund exists to protect our ability to buy new books regardless of serial inflation.
- When we get to April many in the humanities move monies into approval because of extra time.
- For autoship acquisitions pulled information on high use publishers and low use publishers.
- We can now buy ebook packages with our approval money and they encourage us to do so.
- Lynn’s thoughts:
- Won’t be many agree to autoship, but probably can drop certain publishers (e.g. NOVA)
- Can drop completely and it will not be patron driven
- More on patron-driven.
- BTAA is looking at sharing print buying.
- Possibly Cambridge as test case.
- Looking at divisional autoships
- We would all have to agree on publishers, then can drill down into subject LC
- Won’t be many agree to autoship, but probably can drop certain publishers (e.g. NOVA)
- Q’s from Us:
- How would the money come out of funds?
- Funds would pay based on LC codes on autoship
- Lynn will set aside extra money so that if we went over, we could still access those titles.
- What is time frame of data
- last 6 years
- What is we need something fast and order via firm?
- It’s dynamic so we will not buy it twice and autoship will recognize we have already purchased it.
- Next Steps:
- Look at publishers
- As Division have to choose publishers
- Have to choose LC ranges based on subject fund (could have overlap-must choose fund)
- Can granularly choose TYPE of material (research recommended etc.)
- What publishers could be removed
- This would be WIDELY applied to all divisions
