Minutes

Minute Taker – JJ Pionke

  • Approve Nov. Meeting Minutes
    Approved
  • Conversation with JoAnn Jacoby
    • Introducing herself as the new AUL for User Services.  Discussion included talking about potential projects like Inner Voices and “Faces of Campus” that would be spearheaded by Cindy I with the support of the Diversity Committee.  The Faces of Change initiative would invite student groups, especially minorities, to utilize library spaces.
  • ClimateQUAL Updates
    • Cindy Ingold absent, no report
  • Inclusive Illinois Meeting
    • A special Inclusive Illinois meeting was held on November 30 in light of recent campus/national events related to race. Several Diversity Committee members attended as well as Dean Wilkin.  Heather sent a recap to LibNews.
  • Inner Voices
    • Planning a performance for Spring 2016
    • Much debate about where to have the performances.  It was decided to inquire as to whether or not they might be interested in doing 2 performances, one in 66 or 106 and the other in the UGL, potentially as a pop-up type of event.
  • Framework for Strategic Action, 2015-2018
    • Follow up question was whether or not our input was actioned into the final draft (some of it was) and whether or not we wanted to take further action on implementation.  The decision was made to see what comes out of the Retreat. It was also decided to use the Framework as a framework for initiatives going forward.
  • News, Updates, and Events
    • Our Place at a Predominantly White Institution
      • Dean Wilkin, JoAnn Jacoby, and Cindy Ingold attended a session titled “The Role of Professional Allies and Staff” held by Black Student Union on December 5. Two other library staff members attended the entire conference.
    • In Love and Solidarity
      • This was an event that was on the Quad and attended by Dean Wilkin, and others.
    • Celebration of Diversity Breakfast
      • Many of us attended and had a good time.
    • Tech Forums
      • Went off well.  There is a definite need for more (especially about assistive tech), perhaps as HUB training or something else.  Some discussion about talking to Merinda to turn these into Saavy researcher sessions.
      • * Carried Over from the November Meeting *
    • Define a Global University
      • This was a day long meeting, but no one was able to attend.
    • Work with GREAT
      • Tabled until next meeting.
    • Diversity themed webinars (Cindy I and Harriett)
      • Both absent, no report
  • Refining Our Focus for the New Year
    • Didn’t get to this item, will be discussed in January
