1. Re-Schedule May Meeting

Because of conflicts, the next User Education meeting will move to the first Monday of May, May 5th, from 10:00-11:00. There will be no meeting in June.

2. Curriculum Mapping Workshop

Lisa presented the curriculum mapping workshop. This was a pilot run-through of the workshop that will be offered to all librarians during Spring and Summer.

Why do we curriculum map?

  • Understand curriculum structures and relationships
  • Uncover curriculum structure
  • Make connections between the library and curriculum: Gain insight on how students experience the discipline, Increase awareness of curricular content, Identify common/gateway courses – way for us to be strategic in our thinking about curriculum integration, Reveal opportunities for library integration

    • Library Materials
  • Services
    • Reserves
    • Reference
    • Instruction
  • Mapping Procedure
    • Learn: Identify Courses, Read Course Titles, Note Prerequisites
    • Create: Lay out curriculum as it is experienced, Label course relationships
    • Analysis: Identify Common/Gateway Courses, Examine Course Content, Select Target Courses
    • Plan: Match Selected Courses with Information Literacy Goals, Develop Strategies for Approaching Faculty/Program Administrators

The committee members created curriculum maps for their selected programs of study and departments.

3. Curriculum Mapping Debriefing

In regards to the curriculum mapping exercise, the committee made the following suggestions: allow more time, have more people to help out during the hands-on portion, and emphasize small group work. Overall, the committee found the activity to be very helpful and informative.
