Winners of Library support to ALA in Chicago:

Based on blind readings of seven staff members’ letters of application, Gennye Varvel from Technical Services and Elisandro Cabada from Engineering Library were selected to receive Library support to ALA this summer. Jim will look into the deadline for signing up other interested staff to take a University vehicle to carpool to Chicago and see the exhibits.

Still need a LSSC liaison from Area Studies:

Lynne Rudasill is trying to help us recruit a staff member to serve as a liaison from Area Studies, since that spot is still vacant.

University Librarian search:

The LSSC meetings with the remaining two candidates have been scheduled and email with the dates and times was sent to committee. The new UL is expected to be named around the end of this semester.

Division meetings:

There were no meetings for Technical Services, Central Public Services, Life Sciences, or Arts & Humanities since our last LSSC meeting. (CPS meets next week.) Special Collections did meet, but Jim had to cover the desk in Maps & Geography, so he was not able to attend.

Open invitation to Sue Searing to LSSC meetings:

As it has been tradition for the Associate University Librarian for Services to attend LSSC meetings, we will make sure that Sue Searing, the current AUL for Services, knows she has an open invitation to our meetings and we will also let her know when we have special topics we’d like to have the chance to discuss with her.  Sue did attend one of our meetings toward the beginning of her service as AUL.
Next meeting at UGL Media Commons: Our next LSSC meeting will be at the Media Commons on the Upper Level of UGL, May 9th at 9:00 a.m.   We will get a tour and see what technology is available there.  Meet at the front entrance near Espresso Royale just before 9:00 to go in together.
