{"id":3452,"date":"2023-10-09T18:18:48","date_gmt":"2023-10-09T18:18:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libraryarchives.web.illinois.edu\/sousa\/?p=3452"},"modified":"2024-02-20T23:19:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T23:19:47","slug":"eddie-barbash-and-kasa-jazz-quartets-clinic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/sousa\/2023\/10\/09\/eddie-barbash-and-kasa-jazz-quartets-clinic\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Clinic with the Eddie Barbash and KASA Jazz Quartets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/libraryarchives.web.illinois.edu\/sousa\/files\/2023\/10\/Barbash-KASA-LECTURE-NBA-Session-Poster-FINAL-reduced.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-3453\" src=\"https:\/\/libraryarchives.web.illinois.edu\/sousa\/files\/2023\/10\/Barbash-KASA-LECTURE-NBA-Session-Poster-FINAL-reduced-1024x791.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"417\" \/><\/a>The University of Illinois&#8217; student chapter of the National Band Association and the Sousa Archives are sponsoring a special performance clinic on October 11 in the School of Music Auditorium.\u00a0 This will be a casual performance and conversation with the KASA and Eddie Barbash jazz ensembles for current and future music educators to discuss innovative ways to incorporate jazz, classical, and old-time music traditions into public school music instruction.\u00a0 This special program is connected with this year&#8217;s Urbana-Champaign Folk and Roots Festival which will kick off on Thursday evening at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.\u00a0 For further information about this clinic contact either Emily McGovern at <a href=\"mailto:emilyhm2@illinois.edu\">NBA<\/a> or Scott Schwartz at <a href=\"mailto:schwrtzs@illinois.edu\">Sousa Archives<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Andy Liang, Aaron Schwartz, Stephanie Price-Wong and Kyle Price founded the KASA Quartet in summer 2016.\u00a0 The quartet earned first prize during the 2017 Coltman Chamber Music Competition.\u00a0 Critics have described KASA as one of the country\u2019s newest rock stars of the string quartet because of its fluency in multiple genre-defining music styles that fuse classical string repertoire with jazz, musical theater, folk, and pop standards.
