She joined the College of Commerce (now the Gies College of Business) in 1922. This is 16 years after the first male Chinese students began studying at the university. In a <em>Daily Illini<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19221003.2.66&amp;srpos=2&amp;e=-------en-20-DIL-1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">feature<\/a>, Chiang said, \u201cI am perfectly satisfied at the University of Illinois,\u201d and further stated, \u201cIn my home in Pekin, I heard of Illinois, and my friends in this country directed me here. It is a wonderful place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-11266 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/slc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/73\/2020\/05\/1_PaulineChiang-207x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/slc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/73\/2020\/05\/1_PaulineChiang-207x300.jpg 207w, https:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/slc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/73\/2020\/05\/1_PaulineChiang.jpg 376w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Pauline Chiang<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Upon her arrival Chiang, lived at McKinley Hall and became active in the Freshman Commission, the <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19221126.2.132&amp;srpos=3&amp;e=-------en-20-DIL-1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">Woman\u2019s Cosmopolitan Club<\/a>, and at the <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=TUC19230407&amp;dliv=userclipping&amp;cliparea=1.8%2C380%2C2103%2C671%2C573&amp;factor=2&amp;e=-------en-20--1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church<\/a>. Chiang also associated with the Chinese Students\u2019 Club and took the part of a <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19230505.2.136&amp;srpos=6&amp;e=-------en-20-DIL-1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">princess<\/a> in \u201cThe Philosopher\u2019s Stone,\u201d a play that the club wrote and produced in 1923. A <em>Daily Illini<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19230429.2.45&amp;srpos=1&amp;e=-------en-20-DIL-1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">article<\/a> from 1923 features Chiang\u2019s thoughts on the 1922 silent drama <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/East_Is_West_(1922_film)\"><em>East Meets West<\/em><\/a>, a movie that starred a white woman in yellowface and heavily featured stereotypes about Chinese people. Chiang said, \u201cI never saw Chinese girls with false teeth, as so described. In September of 1923, Pauline Chiang <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19230916.2.188&amp;srpos=14&amp;e=-------en-20-DIL-1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">married<\/a> a <a href=\"https:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/?a=d&amp;d=DIL19230912.2.11&amp;srpos=8&amp;e=-------en-20-DIL-1--img-txIN-%22pauline+chiang%22--------\">fellow student<\/a>, Herbert C. Euyang. She then appears in the 1923 <em>Local Faculty and Staff Directory<\/em> as \u201cMrs. H.C. Euyang.\u201d She is not found by either name in any subsequent directories.
