The Cloud State Bank, also known as the People\u2019s National Bank, is located in McLeansboro, Illinois. The building was designated and built from 1880-1882 by Aaron G. Cloud and his son Chalon Cloud. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Frederick Koeper describes the building in Illinois Architecture From Territorial Times to the Present<\/em>, noting, \u201cEarly descriptions of the bank building stress its \u2018elegance\u2019. Built of hand-made red brick and fine white limestone, it was finished in walnut, cherry, and wrought iron. The security measures were incomparable and the safe and vault the largest and strongest in Southern Illinois. The clock in the tower, made in Boston, was installed in 1886, and its 800 pound bell could be heard for miles.\u201d The Turners\u2019 full research on the Bank is accessible in their Christmas 1971 note<\/a>, which was enclosed inside the card.<\/p>\n
