The first published books from Aipetrat were the translations of works of Marx, Engels and Lenin in Armenian.\u00a0 The very first of these books was Marx\u2019s <em><strong>Das Kapital<\/strong><\/em>, translated by S. Shaumian.\u00a0 Other books that followed were<em><strong> The Communist Manifesto<\/strong><\/em>, V. I. Lenin\u2019s \u201c<strong>National question<\/strong>\u201d (<em><strong>Natsionalnyi vopro<\/strong><\/em><strong>s<\/strong>), Program of the Communist Party, etc.\u00a0 There were also books on socio-economic issues, popular science, belles-lettres, and literary works for children.\u00a0 These books were published in Armenian, Azeri and Kurdish.<\/p>\n<p>As with the other Soviet republics in Central Asia, Baltic region, and other ethnic republics within Russia proper,\u00a0 the Soviet authorities established a printing infrastructure to coordinate their nationalities ideology.\u00a0 On 30 July 1920, V. I. Lenin signed a decree, which established book chambers in the Soviet republics.\u00a0 On 27 December, 1922, the People&#8217;s Commissariat of Education of Armenia established the State Book Chamber [Gosudarstvennaia knizhnaia palata].\u00a0 As the official state organ for publishing in Armenia, the Book chamber received the mandate to demand the obligatory deposit copies from the publishers.\u00a0 The publishing world of Armenia was further shaped by the decrees of the 13th Congress of the Communist Party, especially the directives of the Central Committee of December 29, 1928 on &#8220;providing books to the masses\u201d and \u201con literary criticism and bibliography.\u201d \u00a0 In addition to the State Book Chamber, following institutions were established:<\/p>\n<p>Respublikanskaia biblioteka = Republican Library of the Armenian<br \/>\nFundamentalnaia biblioteka AN Arm. SSR [Academy of Sciences of Armenia SSR Library]<br \/>\nRespublikanskaia detskaia biblioteka [Republican Children&#8217;s Library]<\/p>\n<p>These and other institutions began publishing various bibliographic works.\u00a0 One of the first bibliographic works published by the book chamber was\u00a0 G. Levonian&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0<em><strong>Armianskaia periodicheskaia pechat, 1794-1934<\/strong><\/em>, published in 1930 by the Book Chamber.\u00a0 In addition to the periodical guide, the State Book Chamber began publishing national bibliographic publications of Armenia SSR, modeled after the national bibliographic publications associated with the Central Book Chamber.\u00a0 The\u00a0 following publications were introduced by the State Book Chamber of Armenia SSR:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Lragraying hodvatsneri taregir = Letopis&#8217; gazetnykh statei [Annals of newspaper articles]: <\/strong><\/em>This serial title was published around 1934 with limited issues.\u00a0 In 1949, this publication became a monthly publication, which indexed newspaper articles in Russian and Armenian in two separate sections.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Zhurnalayin hodvatsneri taregir = Letopis&#8217; zhurnal&#8217;nykh statei [Annals of journal articles]<\/strong><\/em>: This title began circulating in 1938.\u00a0 As<strong> with <\/strong><em><strong>Lragraying hodvatsneri taregir<\/strong><\/em>, this title contained two separate sections for Armenian and Russian articles.\u00a0 <em><strong>Zhurnalayin hodvatsneri taregir<\/strong><\/em> was issued as a quarterly.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Tpagrut\u2019yan taregir = Letopis&#8217; pechati Armiansko\u01d0<\/strong> <strong>SSR<\/strong><\/em> [~Annals of Armenian SSR Publications] began as <em><strong>Grk\u02bfi taregir<\/strong><\/em> in 1925, \u201c\u2026 issued only in the Armenian language until 1950, when the Russian-language parallel title, <em><strong>Knizhnaia letopis\u2019<\/strong><\/em>, was added.\u201d During the early 1950s, Grk\u02bfi taregir incorporated <strong>noted music<\/strong>,<strong> printed pictorial works<\/strong>, and <strong>reviews<\/strong>.\u00a0 In 1971, the State Book Chamber changed the title from <em><strong>Grk\u02bfi taregir<\/strong><\/em> to <em><strong>Tpagrut\u2019yan taregir<\/strong><\/em> =\u00a0<em><strong>Letopis&#8217; pechati Armiansko\u01d0<\/strong><strong>SSR<\/strong><\/em> [Annals of Armenian SSR Publications]. Myasnikyani anvan Petakan Hanrapetakan Gradaran, 1963.\u00a0 <strong>OCLC Accession Number<\/strong>: 26448104.<\/p>\n<p>Compiled by staff at what is now the National Library of Armenia, this standard bibliography of Armenian bibliographies contains 1,324 entries for bibliographies published as stand-alone monographs, articles of a bibliographic nature from the periodical press, and related works.\u00a0 <em><strong>Matenagitut\u2019yun haykakan matenagitut\u2019yan<\/strong><\/em> is divided into five main sections:\u00a0 general bibliographies; subject-specific bibliographies; bibliographies of the works of individual persons (personalia); library and publishers\u2019 catalogs; and (non-bibliographic) works on the history of Armenian monographic and periodical publishing.\u00a0 These are divided into a number of sub-sections according to subject and type of bibliography [The \u201cGeneral bibliography\u201d section, for example, is subdivided into \u201cGeneral bibliographic indexes and periodicals,\u201d \u201cAnnual bibliographic publications,\u201d \u201cCatalogs of \u2018early-printed\u2019 books [i.e., incunabula],\u201d and \u201cBibliography of the Armenian periodical press.\u201d].\u00a0 Within most of the subsections, Armenian-language bibliographies are listed first, followed by Russian-language bibliographies, followed by bibliographies in other languages (i.e. F.C. includes almost every sphere of Armenian ancient and medieval science and culture &#8211; history, geography, philosophy, grammar, law, medicine, mathematics, literature, miniature and others, as well as manuscripts in Arabic, Persian, Greek, Syrian, Latin, Ethiopian, Indian, Japanese, etc.&#8221;\u00a0 Named after the inventor of the Armenian alphabet, Mesrop Mashtots, the centerpiece of the collection is the Echhmiadzin Patriarchate Repository of Manuscripts, which played a leading role in preserving Armenian religious and cultural identity.\u00a0 There are four sections within the Matenadaran: the manuscript fund, the archives, the library and the publishing department.<\/p>\n<p>Each volume includes chronological indexes indicating whether a particular manuscript is an original or a copy of another manuscript;
