1. Introduction<\/a> The Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, located in the North Caucasus, is a federal subject of the Russian Federation. Diplomatic relationships with Russia were established in 1740s and by the 19th century Ossetia was under complete Russian control. In 1936, North Ossetia became an autonomous Soviet Republic. It went through several name changes in the 1990s and received its current name in 1994. The capital is the city of Vladikavkaz. Official languages are Russian (used as lingua franca) and Ossetian. The latter, an Indo-European language, belongs to the East Iranian group. Ossetian started using the Cyrillic script in 1844; Latin script was used in the 1920s-1930s. The alphabet has a character that does not exist in the Russian alphabet: \u00c6. The imprints catalogs diffuse most of the difficulties associated with transliteration in the vernacular languages, spelling, forms of entry, and uncertainties with the entirety of the collection. \nThe electronic library provides full text access to different historical materials about the region, such as Sbornik svedenii o Kavkaze<\/i>, Terskii kalendar\u2019<\/i> (issues from 1890s until 1915), Terskii sbornik<\/i>, Kavkazkii kalendar\u2019<\/i> (issues from 1860s through 1916), a literary journal Makh Dug <\/i>(content<\/a> of issues from 1934 to 2017; full text of issues from 1939 to 1989) and many others.<\/p>\n
\nSince 1959, the Library serves as a Book Chamber whose goal is to register all materials published in the Republic. A list of these materials, known as Letopis\u2019 pechati Severnoi Osetii<\/i>, is published annually and consists of 5 parts: book index, journal and newspaper article indexes, review index and Severnaia Osetia in Russia and abroad index. \nRegional and local online projects dedicated to cultural phenomena of Ossetia in art, literature, music. For instance, Mansarda khudozhnika <\/a>is a multimedia project that gives access to the art heritage of the Republic. It comprises four parts (painting, drawing, sculpture, crafts) and provides a summary of the artist\u2019s life and work, bibliography and examples of artworks.
