This makes it the second largest collection of children\u2019s literature in the United States after the Library of Congress. Included in the collection are children&#8217;s classics, easy readers, picture books, folk literature, mythology, and more. In addition, the S-Collection holds national award-winning and notable books in the realms of literature, science, and the social sciences. Non-circulating copies, as well as one or more circulating copies, of every Caldecott and Newbery winner are within the collection. <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/s-collection\/findbks\/s-collbibs\/comprehensive\/\">Comprehensive holdings<\/a> of specific authors and illustrators are maintained. The S-Collection contains a reference collection relevant to the study of children&#8217;s literature. Bibliographies, indexes, and biographical materials about children&#8217;s authors as well as encyclopedias and dictionaries of children\u2019s literature are housed here. The S-Collection also includes several magazines for children and journals related to the review and criticism of children&#8217;s literature.<\/p>\n<p>Children&#8217;s literature is also held in the Center for Children&#8217;s Books (CCB), a non-circulating collection of 4,000 volumes reviewed in the Bulletin of the Center for Children&#8217;s Books. More information about this collection can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/ccb.lis.illinois.edu\/\">http:\/\/ccb.lis.illinois.edu\/<\/a>. Additional works pertaining to children\u2019s literature can be found in the SSHEL Stacks and the Main Stacks. The S-Collection also contains rare or historically significant children&#8217;s books dating back to the beginning of the nineteenth century, which are housed in the Rare Book and Manuscript Library. The<a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/rbx\/\">\u00a0Rare Book &amp; Manuscript Library<\/a>\u00a0also maintains a separate collection of children\u2019s literature and some instructional materials dating from the early 1600\u2019s to the present century.<\/p>\n<p>S-Collection material is searchable in the <a href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01CARLI_UIU:CARLI_UIU&amp;lang=en\">Library Catalog<\/a>. Books located in the SSHEL Oak Street Library can be requested through the online catalog and sent to UIUC libraries for pickup. Rare Book Oak Street books can be requested for viewing in the Rare Book &amp; Manuscript Library only. Reference materials are non-circulating. Their searchable catalog collection includes thousands of books with BIPOC characters and narratives that one can filter by several factors, including intended audiences and characters\u2019 identities.
