Hello. The librarians at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Main Library welcome you…
[Jazzy music starts loud, plays for around 8 seconds before fading and playing in the background until the “unfettered access” part]
Central to the intellectual life of the University by providing and stewarding collections and content both current and retrospective, the library enhances the university’s activities and knowledge by preparing students, addressing critical societal needs, advancing university goals, and promoting unfettered access to information. We have a network of expertise that ensures value, quality, and authenticity of information resources.
The library integrates and manages information to enable learning and the creation of new knowledge. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is the proud home of one of the largest and richest public research library collections in North America. The number of books in a collection used to be the only measurement of the library’s value, but our library is so much more than that. We hold history in our building’s architecture and in our libraries’ physical collection.
Please, proceed to the Marshall Gallery to begin the tour, located on the east side of the first floor. Feel free to stop the recording at any point during the tour if you would like to spend extra time at any tour stop.
