The Rare Book & Manuscript Library is one of the great assets of the University of Illinois and is integral to its mission.

As one of the world’s foremost rare book collections, we serve a constituency without borders and engages populations of scholars from around the globe.

The Rare Book & Manuscript Library is dedicated to outreach and public programming. From schoolchildren learning about H.G. Wells’s Time Machine by looking at the manuscript, to sophisticated digital humanities projects, The Rare Book & Manuscript Library works tirelessly to share its treasures with all, and to actively engage in, as well as to present, the intellectual conversations of our time.

The Rare Book & Manuscript Library relies solely on gifts for purchases and support of its programs. This private support is more important than ever before.

Contributions to The Rare Book & Manuscript Library may be made through the The Friends of the University Library.

If you would like to donate a book or manuscript, please contact the Head at (217) 333-3777.

Thank you!
