In conjunction with the Library&#8217;s mission, our staff work to provide preservation and access for a wide range of collections materials including newspapers, monographs, and microforms, and materials deemed brittle and\/or damaged. This is made possible through <\/span><span class=\"s1\">partnerships with Library staff, including the Library\u2019s own <a href=\"http:\/\/idnc.library.illinois.edu\/\">Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections<\/a>, and outside organizations <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/details\/university_of_illinois_urbana-champaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">Internet Archive<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hathitrust.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">HathiTrust.<\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While our current focus is devoted to project-based and patron-driven digitization initiatives, our goal is to provide patrons with multifarious access to the Library&#8217;s collection through digital reformatting. Here, \u201cdigital reformatting\u201d, &#8220;preservation reformatting&#8221;, &#8220;reformatting&#8221;, and &#8220;digitization&#8221; are all synonymous: the reformatting process results in the creation of digital file surrogates that are uploaded online for patron use.
