This service allows university researchers, archivists, and librarians to preserve online records of historical importance and research interest in an online environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Audience\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These policies and guidelines are intended to assist collection editors who have the authority to initiate Web crawls and manage harvested content at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The documentation reflects Archive-It\u2019s documentation and will be updated when Archive-It updates. If you want to see the most up to date information please refer to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/support.archive-it.org\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/360041250172-Guide-for-new-Archive-It-users\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Archive-It&#8217;s documentation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Roles and Responsibilities<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Institutional Administrator Responsibilities:<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Institutional Administrator is the contact point from the subscribing institution to Archive-It. The Library&#8217;s Institutional Administrator is Tracy Popp (tpopp2@illinois.edu), Digital Preservation Coordinator. Responsibilities include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Institutional point of contact for Archive-It<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contacting the Internet Archive regarding technical and service support questions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creating web archives collections<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">User management including:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creating Collection Editor accounts<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Monitoring local web archiving activities and data budget<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Creating and maintaining user training materials<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Collection Editor Responsibilities<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each collection created requires at least one Collection Editor to manage the curatorial activity within a web archives collection. The majority of content selection and management responsibilities are managed by this person or persons. A primary Collection Editor is established at the time the project is created and is generally the author of an approved project proposal. Collection Editors responsibilities include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Identifying and proposing web archiving projects which meet collection development guidelines<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Serving as point of contact for the specified web archives project<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maintaining high-quality public web archives demonstrated through activities such as quality assurance monitoring and metadata creation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Commitment to following web archiving guidelines including established naming conventions and institutional branding<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ensuring that web captures are efficiently using storage space and monitoring allocated collection storage budget<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Contacting content rights holders and site web masters as necessary<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Notifying Institutional Administrator if primary Collection Editor role is handed off to another Library employee<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Suggesting Archive-It feature improvements based on service use and web archives user feedback<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mission To address the need to capture Web-based content relevant to a variety of University of\u00a0Illinois constituencies \u2013 including supporting administrative, teaching, and research communities \u2013 the Library has subscribed to the Internet Archive supported Archive-It service.
