We will be replacing the ceiling and lights as well as painting. There may be additional improvements to flooring and furniture, so stay tuned to this page for the latest news.<\/p>\n<h3>Project Timeline<\/h3>\n<p>These dates are estimates and we will update this page if these targets change.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>April 6<\/strong> First-floor collections begin move to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/mainstacks\/\">Main Stacks<\/a> in the Main Library and can be used or <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.illinois.edu\/librarycatalog\/request-renew\">requested<\/a> from there\n<ul>\n<li>The move of the 1st floor collections will take 6 weeks on either side of the renovation work, with additional time needed to remove and reconstruct shelving.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>April 6-May 22<\/strong> Services and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/mpal\/about\/facilities\/study-spaces\/\">study spaces<\/a> on both floors and second floor collections available to patrons as normal<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 15-19<\/strong>\u00a0Services and spaces open on 1st floor<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 20<\/strong>\u00a0First floor of MPAL is closed. Patrons can access services, collections, and study spaces on MPAL&#8217;s 2nd floor.<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 26<\/strong> Ceiling\/lights\/painting begins and work is expected to last 10-12 weeks<\/li>\n<li><strong>Estimated between July 31 and Aug 14<\/strong> Ceiling\/lights\/painting completed<\/li>\n<li><strong>Once renovations complete<\/strong> Shelving is reinstalled and 1st floor collections begin return to MPAL<\/li>\n<li><strong>8\/24 (first day of classes) or as soon as possible thereafter <\/strong>\u00a0First floor furniture, technology, and services are reinstated on 1st floor and available to patrons<\/li>\n<li><strong>Late September-early October<\/strong> All 1st floor collections successfully returned to MPAL from Main Stacks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Questions<\/h3>\n<p>If you have questions about the renovation or are having issues finding or locating materials during it, please send an email to <a href=\"mailto:mpal@library.illinois.edu\">mpal@library.illinois.edu<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"shortcode sh-col-span-4 sh-pb-3\">\n<h2>Latest Project News<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>August 18<\/strong>: New ceilings, lights, painting, and carpets are done. The floor cleaning and refinishing are taking considerably longer than expected, and means that shelving is not in place yet. However, we anticipate that services and technology should be available on the first floor on the first day of classes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>August 5: <\/strong>the ceilings and lights are done and painting is well underway, as is floor cleaning and refinishing. Still to come are new carpeting and putting everything back where it was! We continue to offer services and collection access on our second floor, accessible from the Music Building north lobby stairs or elevator.<\/li>\n<li><strong>May 19: <\/strong>MPAL 1st floor is now closed and the 2nd floor is open.
