Within MPAL, exhibits are displayed in our two main cases (upright and flat) in the area by the staircase to our upper level. Check our <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/mux\/about\/exhibits\/\">Exhibits page<\/a> for recent examples.<\/p>\n<h3>Textual Elements in an Exhibit<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to the physical items on display, exhibits require textual elements, including a title, narrative, and labels. The narrative typically describes the research question and background information pertaining to the exhibit&#8217;s topic. In the case of a biographical exhibit, the narrative can describe a person&#8217;s history and their major accomplishments. The narrative element is typically no more than a few paragraphs and at most two pages in length.<\/p>\n<p>Labels are necessary for each item on display and give further context to the story described in the narrative. They help to provide situate items and further the story. For the proposal, student(s) are required to submit three item labels as examples for how they would approach writing labels. These labels generally detail what an item is as well as why it is important and included in the selection. In addition, we will offer free printing for the student(s) for materials related to their exhibit. Library staff will be available to assist and advise student(s) on the physical construction of the display.<\/p>\n<p>For helpful tips, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/publish.illinois.edu\/exhibitcomm\/designing-an-exhibit\/\">Designing an Exhibit<\/a> page from the University Library Exhibit Committee.<\/p>\n<h3>Exhibit Case Dimensions<\/h3>\n<h4>Vertical Display Case<\/h4>\n<p>The large vertical display case has three sections. Each section is 13&#8243;in depth, 40&#8243; in width, and typically organized with three vertical tiers, but the glass shelves are movable. Please note primary contact.<\/li>\n<li>When you are due to graduate \/ leave the university.<\/li>\n<li>A description of project \u2013 this should be no more than 500 words.<\/li>\n<li>A list of items to be included in the exhibit along with a brief description of each item. There is no limit to the number of contributors.<\/p>\n<h3>Does the research project need to already be completed in order to submit a proposal?<\/h3>\n<p>No! As long as you have enough materials to fill the display, you are welcome to apply.<\/p>\n<h3>What if I have never created a display before?<\/h3>\n<p>We have sources here to help!
