Description

Prof. Magyar donated a piano-vocal score of A. Dvorak’s Stabat Mater (see below), which includes a dedication in Dvorak’s hand to his friend, J. Mandel-Merei. Magyar received this score from Mandel-Merei’s daughter, Sarolta Merei, who had been studying music at the Royal Hungarian Franz Liszt Conservatory at the same time as Prof. Magyar. Along with the score, Magyar submitted a photograph of J. Mandel-Merei, an autographed portrait of the violinist Amely Heller, and a copy of Heller’s book, H.W. Ernst: Im Urteile seiner Zeitgenossen (see below), along with several letters and a clipping from the period 1905-7.
