December, 1990 – January, 1991

Description

Gift consisted of 2,159 items, including 407 classical recordings; 1,375 jazz, dance, and popular music discs; 175 movie soundtracks and original cast sound recordings; and 202 books, with heavy emphasis on movies and Hollywood personalities (non-music materials may have been transferred to other units within the University Library). Recordings are all 33 1/3- or 45-rpm discs.

Arrangement

Dispersed among cataloged or uncataloged holdings of the Music and Performing Arts Library. Any recordings formerly located at the University Press Building have as of 2019 been transferred to the Internet Archive for digitization.

Unfortunately, no list exists of individual discs and books included in this collection. Collections File folder (“Owens, Calvin L.”) includes correspondence relating to donation along with general summary and brief biographical sketch of John Francis Garrett.
