RECORDING THE FLOATING HOLIDAY

The Library Business Office will keep a record of when each individual staff employee has taken their floating holiday.  Please record the floating holiday on the Daily Time Report as follows:

In first column on the Daily Time Report, under "Account Number or Description of Paid Absence" write "Floating Holiday," then proceed by inserting the number of holiday hours you are eligible for under the day of the week the holiday is taken.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  A full-time academic professional position, responsibilities include:  1) Implement cultivation and solicitation plans for assigned major gift prospects, as well as identification and qualification of additional prospects; 2) Initiate and coordinate corporate and foundation solicitation; 3) Assist with capital campaigns of the University of Illinois Library; 4) Develop, organize, and maintain volunteer networks where appropriate; 5) Assist with planning and implementation of strategies developed to meet fundraising goals and objectives, and other duties as assigned.  Substantial travel required.  Position reports to the Director of Development and Public Affairs.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor's degree required and 3-5 years experience in development or related field preferred.  Experience in major gift fundraising and/or university administration is highly desirable.  Need well-developed skills dealing with people and in oral and written communications.  Attention to detail is essential.

RANK, SALARY AND BEGINNING DATE:  This is a full-time academic professional position, with an initial appointment of not less than twelve months. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.  Starting date for the position is as soon as possible after interviews have been completed.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:  Twelve month appointment.  Twenty-four days vacation per year; 11 paid holidays; 12 days annual sick leave (cumulative) plus additional 13 days (non-cumulative) per year if necessary; health insurance, requiring a small co-payment, is provided to employees (coverage for dependents may be purchased); participation in the State Universities Retirement System, which includes several private options, is compulsory upon appointment (8% of staff member's salary is withheld and is refundable upon termination); newly hired university employees are covered by the Medicare portion of Social Security, and are subject to its deduction.

VISITING RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
SLAVIC & EAST EUROPEAN LIBRARY

Position Available:  August 21, 1999.  Temporary full-time position, acting as Visiting Research Associate.  Annual contract, renewable for two years, by mutual consent of the incumbent and the University of Illinois Library, and contingent upon continued availability of federal grant funds.

Duties:  The position is designed to introduce the incumbent to reference work in Slavic librarianship.  The incumbent in the reference position works under the direction of the manager of the Slavic Reference Service and is trained in all areas of reference specific to the Slavic field and to the needs of the clientele of the Slavic Reference Service.  Fully one third of the incumbent's time will be devoted to mastering the intricacies of research in Slavic archives and compiling explanatory materials for clientele on this topic.  The incumbent must also acquire a familiarity with national bibliographies for the countries of the area as well as subject sources.   Reference queries come to the reference service in all languages of the area.   Thus the incumbent must be able to work with Slavic languages in general.  The incumbent will be assigned to the Slavic Reference Service, a federally funded reference service that has a worldwide clientele.

Department:  The Slavic and East European Library is one of the Library's six area studies units.  The staff consists of 4.5 FTE professional librarians, 8.5 FTE support staff, and student workers.  The Slavic and East European Collection contains over 620,000 volumes and 92,000 volumes in microform.  It is the largest Slavic and East European collection west of Washington, D.C., and the third largest such collection in the country.  Through its various services, the Slavic and East European Library has an international reputation as one of the best centers outside the Soviet Union for doing research in Slavic and East European Studies.

Qualifications Required:  An MLS from an ALA-accredited library school or its equivalent; excellent working knowledge of Russian.  Preferred working knowledge of one or more additional Slavic or East European languages; a post-baccalaureate degree in the Slavic and East European area; excellent English-language communication skills; evidence of ability to work with a research-oriented teaching faculty.

Salary and Rank Minimum:  Annual salary, $33,000.  Appointment as Visiting Research Associate, Slavic and East European Library.
