Minutes of the Library Staff Steering CommitteePresent A. Bendel, A. Conrad, J. Gammon, H.J. Kim, P. Lindell, L. Roberts, G. Witte,

1. The minutes of the March 10, 1999 meeting were approved as revised.
2. Reports
A. Admin. Council - (detailed minutes are available via libnews or LON). A draft survey on users' needs was presented. An update was given on the Rapid Cataloging backlog. Fines and overdues problems result from differing policies at other ILCSO institutions.
B. Library Reconfiguration - The 4th floor work is scheduled to begin in August. A contract has been signed for Phase I.
3. Updates
A. Directories - the Committee has received comments from staff and faculty approving an update of the first floor directories. G. Witte will talk to Bart Clark about recommendations.
b. Library Staff Scholarship to ALA - discussion of acknowledgement of receipt of letters of interest and notes of appreciation of interest to non-recipients.
4. Discussion
A. University Librarian candidate interviews - The Committee discussed and revised questions to ask each University Librarian candidate during our scheduled interviews.
B. Cataloging backlog - newly received materials in Rapid Cataloging will receive priority processing during April as a trial to assess work flow/load issues.
5. New Business
Jane Gammon announced that Conservation/Preservation now reports to Karen Schmidt, Director of Collections & Assessment.
