Visits of University Librarian Candidates

In the next few weeks, the Search Committee will be bringing four candidates for the position of University Librarian to the campus for two and one-half day interviews.  Each of the candidates will be making a presentation to the campus community entitled:  "Leadership Challenges in Research Libraries Today:   Issues and Strategies."

EVERYONE is invited to attend these presentations and the receptions that will follow for the candidates.  Please notify everyone in your unit of these events and try to make arrangements so that as many library faculty and staff can attend as possible.

Interview schedule for Joe Branin.  He arrives on campus for his first activity at 3:00 (Library and Grainger Tour) and does not finish up until 3:00 p.m., Friday, meeting formally morning, noon, and night during that time with well over 50 people from inside and outside the library.  Library meetings include Admin. C., Exec. C., LSSC, Administrative Group, plus a variety of individuals.  Campus officials he will meet with either individually or in groups include Provost Herman, Chancellor Aikin, Associate Provost Roger Martin, Associate Chancellor Steve Schomberg, Associate Chancellor Richard Wilson, Deans, Chair of the Senate Council, Associate Provost Walter Tousey, Associate Chancellor Judith Rowan, Associate VP for Planning and Budgeting Stephen Rugg, heads of academic departments.

Minutes of the Library Staff Steering Committee Meeting

March 10, 1999

 1. Minutes of the February 24 meeting were approved as revised.

2. Reports

Library Reconfiguration report was given by Alan Conrad and Gil Witte.  The tentative plan for each floor was presented for discussion.

 3. Updates

A. LSSC members are on the group to meet with University Librarian candidates.

B. G. Witte is working on the revision of directories in the Library and recommends that the brown directories be removed.  He will talk to Bart Clark about this matter.

C. Tonia Roundtree of the Map & Geography Library is the 1999 ALA Scholarship recipient.

4. Discussion

A. A staff listserv was considered but will not be pursued at this time.

B. Members discussed staff participation on committees/task forces.

LSSC would like to encourage staff to attend the 'Soaring to Excellence' teleconferences.
