Library School Alumni Association Seeking Nominations for Awards

LSAA is seeking nominations for three awards, it gives annually at the GSLIS alumni reception held at the American Library Association Annual Conference.   Deadline for application is March 15.

The Distinguished Alumnus Award is to recognize an individual alumnus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Graduate School of Library and Information Science who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of Library and Information Science.

The Leadership Award is to recognize a recipient of the Master's degree from GSLIS who has graduated in the past 10 years and who has shown leadership in the field of Library and Information Science.

 


The Distinguished Service Award is to recognize a friend of GSLIS including faculty, staff, alumni and non-alumni, who has served LSAA or GSLIS in an exceptional way.

Library Staff Steering Committee Meeting Minutes
January 9, 2002

Present:  A. Conrad, L. Engels, R. Jahr, P. Lindell, T. McCoy, E. Schroeder, J. Somera, G. Witte

I.  Minutes of the November 22, 2001, and December 12, 2001, meetings were revised and approved.

II.  Reports

A.  Admin. Council -- Met on Jan. 7

-- Gateway design was approved with modifications.

-- Binding quotas were approved.

-- Extended hours.  Having libraries open extended hours the week before classes start was discussed.  Paula K. will draft a proposal to look at extending service hours.

-- Cindy Kelly reviewed the guidelines from the employee handbook regarding CSE's taking classes and distributed a form to be filled out by the CSE's and signed by unit heads.

B.  Faculty Meeting -- Chancellor Cantor and Provost Herman were present.

Minutes posted.  Discussed Oak Street selection process and received an update on design/construction timing, how the Bears coming to town will affect parking, staffing reviews, and announcement that new monies for the preservation was approved by the Trustees.

C.  Divisional Meetings Items -- Nothing new

III.  Updates/Discussions

A.  CSE Retreat -- Reviewed and approved the revised survey form to be distributed to staff for input.

IV.  New Business

A.  Safety and Security Concerns -- Reviewed the presentation by Officer Ortiz.   Bob Burger will check with Bart about future plans regarding security and security/safety workshops.  It was suggested that a safety/security committee be formed.
