Reminder to Staff - as per LSSC By-Laws, staff may attend meetings as observers, but not as participants.  Staff may request items be placed on the agenda for discussion.   Agenda item requests should be submitted to the Chair no later than Tuesday noon prior to the meeting.

III.  Reports

A.  Admin. Council - Minutes posted, highlights are:

- Civil Service Employee (CSE) performance evaluations--will not have an impact on salary, it is a good opportunity to talk to supervisors

- discussion continues regarding the proposal for Women & Gender Resources Library to be added to the Education Library.  Space issues, personnel, and autonomy are primary concerns.

B.  Faculty Meeting - Minutes posted, highlights are:

- III implementation in Tech Services this Spring--planned phase-in of serials check-in library-wide in July

- increased divisional involvement/input in the budget process, including reallocations for various initiatives across libraries within the division

- results of the 2000 campus-wide library survey -- summary will be posted on the Web - service expectations vs. service provision

Specific comments received in 3 major areas:

1.  hours:  more, open earlier, close later, longer break hours, a 24-hr library unit

2.  collections:  many materials un-shelved, mis-shelved, not enough fulltext journals online

3.  facilities:  uninviting, noisy, lack of study space (esp. for group study)

- UIUC will be participating in LIBQUAL - survey of  library users addressing gaps in service expectations and service provision (conducted by researchers from ARL and Texas A & M)

IV. Updates/Discussions

A. Election guidelines sub-committee -- Have met twice, work progressing nicely

B.  Staff lounge -- Committee members will continue to welcome input on ways to improve the lounges.

C.  Congratulations to this year's recipients of the ALA Staff Award -- Norma Linton (Conservation) and Dorey Panno (Reference Room).  LSSC will sponsor a brown bag for ALA attendees to share their experiences.

V.  New Business

A.  Begin thinking about

- the date for the Fall CSE retreat.

- a contest to design a logo for the Committee

- a sub-committee to examine the voting structure of the Committee (i.e., based on area vs. population, etc)

- how long the Committee should keep various documents and e-mails

Tonya McCoy, Secretary
