Congratulations To:

Talisa Webber (Law) was awarded the Civil Service Scholarship. Talisa is a Senior in the Board of Trustees program at EIU and will be graduating this December with a Bachelor of Arts degree and has been accepted to the graduate program in Human Resource Education here at UIUC.

Laura Leavitt (Commerce GA) has received a 2004 Special Libraries Association Business & Finance Division Student Stipend Award, which will help her cover expenses to attend the 2004 SLA Annual Conference in Nashville, TN, June 5-10, 2004.  Laura graduated May 16th from GSLIS and started her first professional job as Assistant Business Librarian at the Pomerantz Business Library, University of Iowa. 

Susie Sutherland (Commerce GA) has been selected to receive the 2004 SLA Illinois Student Conference Scholarship, which provides Sutherland with a $1000 award to
attend the same conference.  Susie is working as an intern this summer at the Office of Technology Management, but will resume her GAship here in August.

Becky Smith (Commerce) has been appointed to the SLA Professional
Development Committee.  She will start her service at the SLA Conference
on June 6th.

News & Announcements from Units:

Summer orientation for new students begins Tuesday, June 1 and continues through the week of July 12.  All students entering UIUC this fall are required to attend.  Approximately 950 of these students are expected to participate in Library orientation sessions coordinated by the Undergraduate Library and the Office of Minority Student Affairs.  For additional information, please contact Dana Wright in the UGL at 3-3285.
