Location: <\/strong>Main Library 300, 419, and room 1<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supervisor:<\/strong> Sanga Sung, Government Information Librarian<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Number of Openings: <\/strong>1<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hours per week anticipated: <\/strong>8<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hourly Rate: <\/strong>$25<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anticipated Start Date: <\/strong>Fall 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schedule: <\/strong>Work requiring access to physical collections will generally be scheduled Monday-Friday during ACS operating hours (approximately 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). Other assigned projects may be completed outside those hours with supervisor approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated:<\/strong> Fall 2026-Spring 2027, with the possibility of continued employment contingent upon funding and performance.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Summary<\/strong>
The Graduate Hourly for Government Information Services supports the stewardship, organization, and accessibility of federal and state government publications. Working collaboratively with Government Information Services (Teaching, Learning, and Academic Support) and Acquisitions & Cataloging Services, the student will receive training in government documents copy cataloging, collection management, and technical services workflows while contributing to projects that improve long-term access to government information collections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major Duties and Responsibilities <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Perform copy cataloging and physical processing of federal and state government publications using Alma and OCLC Connexion (training provided).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Review incoming government publications and assist with ongoing processing workflows.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Update and improve government documents processing documentation and workflow guides.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Identify and link electronic equivalents for tangible government publications when appropriate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Assist with review and assessment of legacy government information collections, including microfiche and other legacy media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Collaborate with Government Information Services and Acquisitions & Cataloging Services staff on technical services and collection management projects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Support additional Government Information Services projects related to discovery, access, and collection stewardship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Other duties as assigned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Required Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Bachelor\u2019s Degree<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Enrolled as Graduate Student in the School of Information Sciences Master\u2019s program for Library and Information Sciences (MSLIS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the Academic Terms of Employment listed above<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to learn and apply detailed workflows and procedures consistently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with multiple library units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work effectively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • Coursework or experience in cataloging, metadata, technical services, archives, or government information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience working with government publications or other library collections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Experience creating or maintaining workflow documentation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Interest in collection management, technical services, metadata, or government information librarianship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
