If there is any conflict of interest on the author\u2019s side, it should be fully disclosed within the email. Most importantly, \u201cwe only accept pieces that are submitted exclusively to\u00a0<i>USA TODAY<\/i>. Publication in\u00a0<i>USA TODAY<\/i>\u00a0would also look excellent on a resume or CV.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, publishing in\u00a0<i>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/i>could help authors introduce readers to LIS issues and topics, thereby bringing more exposure to the LIS field. Examples of published articles in\u00a0<i>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/i>related to the LIS field are, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2020\/06\/11\/when-libraries-reopen-after-coronavirus-might-months\/5316591002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Libraries are needed more than ever. But many aren\u2019t sure how to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/opinion\/2017\/11\/06\/reader-librarians-arent-going-anywhere\/837858001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reader: Librarians aren\u2019t going anywhere<\/a>,\u201d and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/books\/2020\/09\/27\/banned-books-week-10-most-censored-titles-decade\/3554853001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Banned Books Week: Is your favorite one of the decade\u2019s most censored?<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the somewhat extensive submission guidelines, authors may be wary of submitting pieces to\u00a0<i>USA TODAY.\u00a0<\/i>If that is the case, consider checking out\u00a0these <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20161129191112\/https:\/\/www.cision.com\/us\/2016\/08\/pr-101-five-tips-for-pitching-usa-today\/\">guidelines for tips on pitching a piece to <em>USA TODAY<\/em><\/a> from the public relations company Cision.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Audience analysis<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><b>About the publication\u2019s readers<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Publication circulation<\/b>: Daily paid print circulation averages at 1,424,407 and total print circulation is estimated to be 2,862,229.<sup class=\"footnote\">10<\/sup>\u00a0Additionally, \u201c<i>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/i>and USATODAY.COM reach a combined seven million readers daily.\u201d<sup class=\"footnote\">11<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><b>Audience location and language or cultural considerations<\/b>: Although the content in <i>USA TODAY <\/i>is primarily focused on news and issues within the US, the publication does cover\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World and International News<\/a>\u00a0which would also appeal to readers outside of the US.\u00a0<i>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/i>also provides an international issue, aimed at \u201cAmericans abroad [or] anyone interested in news, investments, sports, and entertainment from the USA.\u201d<sup class=\"footnote\">12<\/sup>\u00a0Therefore, authors should assume the majority of the readership resides within the US, but should also take into consideration that readers may be US citizens residing outside of the US, or may be individuals from other countries who are interested in US news.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reader characteristics<\/b>: \u201c<i>USA TODAY <\/i>readers are mission-oriented productive people who are trying to advance their lives every day in a time of change and difficulty.\u201d<sup class=\"footnote\">13<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>In conjunction, \u201cThe\u00a0<i>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/i>audience is comprised of everyday Americans and business travelers who are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Busy, on-the-go and connected<\/li>\n<li>Responsible, smart and practical<\/li>\n<li>Annoyed by biased and noisy argumentation in news<\/li>\n<li>Visual learners who like their news \u2018straight up\u2019 and are highly suspicious of fluff<\/li>\n<li>Driven, social and independent<\/li>\n<li>Self-reliant, hardworking and resourceful<\/li>\n<li>Quick to see between the lines and spot the agenda behind \u2018news.\u2019\u201d<sup class=\"footnote\">14<\/sup><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In regard to reader demographics, a 2018 report compiled by the advertising agency Russell Johns Associates examined both the print and online version of the publication. For the print version, the publication found that 66.8% of the readers are male, the majority of the readers are between the ages of 25-54 (56%), and 66.2% of readers are employed. 63% of readers of the print publication also have a household income of at least $75,000, and 64.4% have at least some college education.<sup class=\"footnote\">15<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>For the online version, the report by Russell Johns Associates indicates that 58.8% of readers are male, the majority of readers are between ages 25-54 (54.3%), and 66.6% of readers are employed. 61.7% of the readers of the online publication have a household income of at least $75,000, and 65.2% have at least some college education.<sup class=\"footnote\">16<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><b>Readers\u2019 knowledge of LIS subject matter<\/b>: Authors should err on the side of caution and assume that most readers of\u00a0<i>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/i>are not familiar with LIS issues, topics, or jargon.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Conclusion: Analysis of reader characteristics and their potential impact on authors<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Authors will benefit from submitting pieces that will appeal to national readers, if not worldwide readers. Readers will be from diverse backgrounds with varying interests, some of which will have an interest in LIS issues and topics.\u00a0<em>USA TODAY\u00a0<\/em>provides authors with an excellent
