Having an article published in\u00a0<em>Children and Libraries<\/em>\u00a0increases prestige for the author as the publication is distributed nationwide and in some foreign countries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Audience analysis<\/h2>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>About the publication\u2019s readers<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Publication circulation<\/strong>: Although exact circulation numbers are not available,\u00a0<em>Children and Libraries<\/em> is delivered to members of the ALSC at a discounted rate and is a benefit of membership. In addition, there are individual subscribers and copies distributed for marketing purposes.<sup class=\"footnote\">14<\/sup>\u00a0ALSC has a membership network of more than 4,000.<sup class=\"footnote\">15<\/sup>\u00a0<em>Children and Libraries\u00a0<\/em>is also available online, with the four most recent issues available only to members but older issues open to all.<sup class=\"footnote\">16<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Audience location and language or cultural considerations<\/strong>: As the official journal of the ALSC the audience of members extends to every state in the nation and to some foreign countries.<sup class=\"footnote\">17<\/sup>\u00a0ALSC is conscious of different cultures and is the national home of\u00a0<em>El d\u00eda de los ni\u00f1os \u2013 El d\u00eda de los libros<\/em>\u00a0(Children\u2019s Day \u2013 Book Day) program. They have also developed the ALSC Every Child Ready to Read project, which aims to promote early literacy skills in children from birth to age five.<sup class=\"footnote\">18<\/sup>\u00a0These programs reflect the organization\u2019s support for diversity and dedication to service to all children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reader characteristics<\/strong>: Readers of\u00a0<em>Children and Libraries<\/em> are made up of children\u2019s librarians, including school librarians, reading teachers, library directors, book reviewers, university professors, library support staff, and retired library professionals. Readers will be familiar with the fundamentals and values of school libraries, public libraries, and community programs that serve children. Readers can be expected to be LIS professionals and to have or be pursuing advanced degrees. Many may work in schools or in public libraries and deal directly with children. Readers have interests in children\u2019s education, literacy programs, continuing education for library professionals, and collection development of children\u2019s materials in schools and libraries.<sup class=\"footnote\">19<\/sup><\/p>\n<p>ALSC boasts a network of \u201cmore than 4,000 children\u2019s and youth librarians, children\u2019s literature experts, publishers, education and library school faculty members, and other adults committed to creating a better future for children through libraries.\u201d<sup class=\"footnote\">20<\/sup>\u00a0These readers are dedicated to children around the country and promote practices that improve children\u2019s library services. The ALSC supports equity of access and the continued development of multicultural, multilingual library staff.<sup class=\"footnote\">21<\/sup>\u00a0Cultural diversity is a value of the organization, evident in the various articles in\u00a0<em>CAL<\/em>\u00a0that cover service and programs to patrons of different ethnic backgrounds.<sup class=\"footnote\">22<\/sup><\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowledge of LIS subject matter<\/strong>: Readers can be expected to be familiar with LIS jargon and issues facing children and libraries. The readers of\u00a0<em>CAL<\/em>\u00a0have experience with current technologies and the latest trends in library services for children.<sup class=\"footnote\">23<\/sup><\/p>\n<h3>Conclusion: Analysis of reader characteristics and their potential impact on authors<\/h3>\n<p>Readers are professionals who are concerned with issues pertaining to children and libraries. Readers work in school libraries, public libraries, or have contact with children. These professionals seek out literature that is specific to library service for children and this journal meets those needs. Readers wish to be informed of the latest trends, research involving children, literacy, and collection development in order to meet the needs of their young patrons.
