The Illinois Newspaper Project (INP) announces titles available soon on Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections<\/a> (IDNC) and Chronicling America<\/a>. Funded by a grant received in 2018\u00a0 from the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP), these additions mark the beginning of a series of new titles selected in line with INP’s proposed theme: communities and causes.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n For its 2018 NDNP grant cycle, INP proposed to select, digitize, and provide to the Library of Congress 100,000 pages of historical newspapers published by underrepresented ethnic and political communities in Illinois. The INP continued its focus on diversifying the holdings of <\/span>Chronicling America<\/span>, an initiative that began in 2015 with its pilot project of digitizing non-English historical newspapers published throughout Chicago\u2019s immigrant communities. After contributing over 100,000 pages of non-English content to <\/span>Chronicling America<\/span>, INP has been working to provide cost-free access to newspapers representing diverse communities and causes in Illinois history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Just in time for African American History Month, these additions will include digitized newspapers published by Illinois\u2019 African American communities.
