This collection consists of original correspondence, transcribed correspondence, and copies of microfilmed correspondence of Robert Todd Lincoln and other Lincoln contemporaries.
Robert Todd Lincoln (1843-1926) was the eldest son of Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln. He was a lawyer, politician, and businessperson.
This collection contains original, transcribed, and copied correspondence between Robert Todd Lincoln and a variety of correspondents, as well as correspondence between Lincoln contemporaries, notably William Herndon and David Davis. Also included is ephemera, such as brochures, pamphlets, and newsletters from Hildene, the residence of Robert Todd Lincoln in Manchester, Vermont.
Microfilmed prints of correspondence are included in Box 2 and 3, and were made available through the efforts of James T. Hickey, curator of the Historical Library's Lincoln Collection at the Illinois State Historical Library, now the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, as well as the collecting of Ralph G. Newman.
This collection was donated to the Library in 1998.
