Scope and Contents of the Materials

Through the Years: African American History Comes Home was an exhibit on African Americans in Champaign County, Ill. Displayed at the University of Illinois' Krannert Art Museum in the fall and winter of 1996, the exhibit was developed by the Champaign County African American History Committee, in collaboration with the University's Afro-American Studies program and the museum. The exhibit consisted of nine posters on a variety of themes, including arts and entertainment, businesses, community activism, early families, education, fraternal and social organizations, and military service.

In 1997-98 the exhibit was on display at local schools and libraries, including the Champaign Public Library (Main Branch and Douglass Branch), Parkland College, Yankee Ridge School, Urbana High School and Urbana Middle School.

The Library acquired the posters from the University's African American Research Center in 2012.
