Scope and Contents of the Materials

The University and College Women of Illinois (UCWI) was formed in 1972 by women from a variety of colleges and universities across state. "[D]irected to the promotion of the economic, educational and professional welfare of women in the Illinois academic community and their full and equal participation in all of its aspects" (Constitution, folder 2), the group emphasized such issues as affirmative action hiring and equality in promotion and tenure procedures, along with campus safety and health concerns. This collection contains minutes, correspondence, membership records, and materials related to the UCWI annual conference, as well as various other documents, such as two issues of the UCWI newsletter and collected materials regarding the group's political concerns.

This collection was donated to the Library by Beth Stafford in 1980.
