Scope and Contents:
This collection contains photocopies of three letters sent to and from Benjamin Irvin, Co. E, 56th Ill. Vol. Infantry during the Civil War. The letters describe his life during military service in Kentucky and Mississippi in 1862. He and his wife Sarah Irvin discuss military campaigns, finances, illness, and other events in their home town in Raleigh, Illinois.
Also included is a biographical sketch of Benjamin Irvin from his great-granddaughter Mrs. H. O. Anderson in 1974.
Mrs. H. O. Anderson donated the collection in 1974.
