L. J. Haberkorn was one of the firemen who responded to the Chatsworth Wreck, a train wreck near Chatsworth, Ill., on Aug. 10, 1887, which killed 81 passengers. Haberkorn later became a local businessman and historian, publishing a history of the town in the Chatsworth Plaindealer. This collection contains clippings of the 15-part series, which ran from April 16 to July 23, 1942.
Louise Stoutemyer of Chatsworth, Ill., donated the clippings to the Library in 1986. See also her history, The Train That Never Arrived (1970).
