Scope and Contents:
Benjamin Ladd Wiley (1821-90) , enlisted in Co. B, 1st Ill. Vols. in the Mexcan War, becoming acting quartermaster of the unit. This collection contains a carbon typescript (35 pages) of his diary during ther regiment's march from Fort Leavenworth to Santa Fe, July 8-Dec. 27, 1847. The original diary from which the typescript was made in 1952 is in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library.
