On May 1, 1844, Joel Wheeler of Galena, Ill., gave an account of his ministerial activities for the preceding quarter to the Rev. Benjamin M. Hill, the corresponding secretary of the American Baptist Home Missionary Society. Wheeler requests overdue payment for his work and describes various difficulties that he has encountered.
