Walker, Pinckney Houston (1815-1885). Notebooks, 1860-1861 | Illinois History and Lincoln Collections
This collection contains two pocket notebooks belonging to Pinckney H. Walker, a judge in the Illinois Supreme Court. Walker used the two notebooks to record notes for his judicial opinions in 1860 and 1861.
Pinckney H. Walker, born in Kentucky, moved to Rushville, Illinois, in 1834, and then to Macomb, Illinois, where he read law with his uncle, Cyrus Walker. After his admission to the bar, he practiced in each town. Elected to the circuit court, 5th circuit, in 1853, he was appointed and then elected to the Illinois Supreme Court in 1858, the first of three nine-year terms.
The Illinois Historical Survey, the predecessor of the Illinois History and Lincoln Collections, acquired these notebooks in 1942.
