Scope and Contents:
This collection contains photocopies, transcripts, and microfilm copies of three separate sets of records. The first set of records (1819-32) contains letters and inspector reports pertaining to Fort Armstrong, Ill. These documents were copied from the Quartermaster General's Office and the Inspector General's Office. The next set of records (1819-43) are reports of the Inspector General's Office regarding troop inspections, the condition of troops, and instructions and recommendations regarding forts. The final set of records (1822-43) are mostly ordnance letters regarding mining and related business activities in the lead mines at Galena, Ill.
The documents were copied from originals in the National Archives in 1973.
