The library has a great many books by Foucault, about Foucault, about his writings, and generally inspired by Foucault, which will hold you in good stead until the last day of February (The 29th this year!) and even through to the next leap year (and well beyond.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Michel Foucault (1926-1984) was a French historian and philosopher associated with the structuralist and post-structuralist movements. He was extremely influential in the humanities, it is perhaps impossible to get a degree in religion, philosophy, or history without meeting Foucault.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If this is your first encounter with Foucault, we have many helpful books on the subject. The appropriately named\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01CARLI_UIU\/gpjosq\/alma99396592312205899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Foucault for Beginners<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0even includes illustrations! We have\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01CARLI_UIU\/gpjosq\/alma99937473812205899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Foucault: A Very Short Introduction<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, a little over one hundred pages distilling Foucault&#8217;s life and works into an accessible quick read. There is also,\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01CARLI_UIU\/gpjosq\/alma99591964612205899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Cambridge Introduction to Foucault<\/span><\/em><\/a><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">,<\/span><\/em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0which promises to provide, \u201cways in to understanding Foucault&#8217;s key concepts of subjectivity, discourse, and power and explains the problems of translation encountered in reading Foucault in English.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> Then again, the reader might be wishful of starting with the man himself\u2019s greatest hits. If this is the case, our reader could begin with\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01CARLI_UIU\/gpjosq\/alma99104151112205899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">(1975),\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01CARLI_UIU\/gpjosq\/alma99347058212205899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The History of Sexuality Volumes 1-3<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, or perhaps a curated collection like <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/permalink\/01CARLI_UIU\/gpjosq\/alma99433440712205899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Essential Works of Michel Foucault, 1954-1984<\/span><\/em><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, and many more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you find yourself stymied by Foucault&#8217;s work there are also many auxiliary books here to help you through.
