Many of these products were distributed through the Federal Depository Library Program.<\/p>\n<p>Online:<br \/>\nThe Catalog via\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.gpo.gov\/F?RN=383981235\">GPO<\/a><\/b>\u00a0contains more than 500,000 records generated since July 1976 and it is updated daily.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/proxy\/go.php?url=http:\/\/monthlycatalog.chadwyck.com\">Monthly\u00a0Catalog of US\u00a0Government Publications, 1895-1976<\/a><\/b>\u00a0is available for UIUC affiliates or on campus use only.<br \/>\nThe Catalog via\u00a0<b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/proxy\/go.php?url=https:\/\/uiuclib.on.worldcat.org\/advancedsearch?databaseList=\">OCLC FirstSearch<\/a><\/b>\u00a0contains records from 1976 and is available for UIUC affiliates or on campus use only.\u00a0In &#8220;Search in Database&#8221; choose &#8220;GPO&#8221; in the drop down menu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Print:<\/strong><br \/>\nEarlier information is available in a print index, Monthly Catalog of United States Government Publications. \u00a0In the Government Documents Library at call number<br \/>\n015.73 UN35.\u00a0 Coverage: 1895-1991.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncstrl.org\/\">Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis site is a collaborative project involving NASA Langley, Old Dominion University, University of Virginia and Virginia Tech. Search for reports or browse within each archive holding reports.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.loc.gov\/rr\/scitech\/\">Library of Congress<br \/>\nScience Reference Services; Science, Technology and Business Division<br \/>\n<\/a><\/b>This site provides examples of the technical reports collected by the Library of Congress. Not all are available online, but it does include links to NTIS collections and non-governmental sources of technical reports, as well as information on obtaining reports from the Library of Congress.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/toxnet.nlm.nih.gov\/\">Toxnet<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>This family of databases provides bibliographic, factual, and structural information on toxic and otherwise dangerous chemicals and substances, as well as information on these substances\u2019 interactions with living organisms and the environment. One database,\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/toxnet.nlm.nih.gov\/cgi-bin\/sis\/htmlgen?TOXLINE\">TOXLINE<\/a><\/b>, offers index access to published research results in books, journals, and technical reports.\u00a0 Other databases provide factual information about the compounds, procedures, and outcomes in a concise outline format.\u00a0 Search any individual database or all databases at one time.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lib.umd.edu\/ENGIN\/TechReports\/Virtual-TechReports.html\">Virtual Technical Reports Center<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis virtual center provides access to eprints, preprints and technical reports on the web.\u00a0 Indexed by institution, all of which provided either full-text or searchable abstracts of their reports.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usaid.gov\/\">USAID<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nTechnical reports on this site are located under many subject areas.\u00a0 Use the Search box and enter keywords &#8220;technical reports&#8221; to bring up many listings.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/proxy\/go.php?url=https:\/\/uiuclib.on.worldcat.org\/advancedsearch?databaseList=\">WorldCat<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis database provides access to records covering the full range of bibliographic material cataloged by\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.oclc.org\/default.htm\">OCLC<\/a><\/b>\u00a0member libraries including military universities.\u00a0 WorldCat can be used to search for cataloged technical reports.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"CRS\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Congressional Research Service<\/h2>\n<p>Multiple sites provide access to these reports based on subject matter.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pennyhill.com\/\">Penny Hill Press<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis site is comprehensive and arranged by subject area.\u00a0 However,\u00a0 it provides only a listing of CRS reports not full-text.\u00a0 As a commercial press it provides means of ordering the full-text reports, many of which may be available for free through the sites below.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/digital.library.unt.edu\/govdocs\/crs\/\">University of North Texas Libraries<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThe UNT Libraries provide this online archive of Congressional Research Service Reports from 1990 to today.\u00a0 Thousands of reports are available on a wide range of topics.\u00a0 Reports can be found by searching full text, title, author, subject or report number.\u00a0 Reports can also be browsed by subject matter.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncseonline.org\/programs\/science-policy\/crs-reports\">Environmental Law &amp; Policy<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThe National Library for the Environment provides this database and the following explanation.\u00a0 &#8220;The Congressional Research Service (CRS), part of the Library of Congress, prepares its reports for the U.S. Congress. CRS products undergo review for accuracy and objectivity and contain nontechnical information that can be very useful to people interested in environmental policy. CRS does not itself provide these documents to the general public.\u00a0 Although CRS documents are prepared specifically for Congress and not widely distributed, their distribution is not protected by law or copyright. NCSE is committed to expanding, maintaining and updating its database of reports, making them available and searchable for the public.&#8221;\u00a0 Use this site to search or browse by topic, date, code or title.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.umaryland.edu\/marshall\/crsreports\/index.asp\">Homeland Security\/Terrorism<\/a><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.umaryland.edu\/marshall\/crsreports\/index.asp\">Health Law and Policy<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis online collection, covering two topic areas, is provided by the Thurgood Marshall Law Library at University of Maryland.\u00a0 Browse the reports by topic, date, title, or order code.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fas.org\/sgp\/crs\/\">Intelligence, Military and National Security<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis list is provided by the Federation of American Scientists and is subdivided by topic.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"defense\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Defense<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dtic.mil\/\">Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) homepage<\/a><\/b><br \/>\n&#8220;THE premier provider of DoD technical information.\u201d\u00a0 This Department of Defense site links to STINET for access to technical reports (see next listing).\u00a0 It also provides\u00a0<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dtic.mil\/trail\/\">Technical Reports Automated Information List<\/a><\/b>\u00a0(TRAIL), a free subscription service which allows individuals to be notified bi-weekly via email regarding new documents on their selected topics.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dtic.mil\/dtic\/search\/tr\/\">Scientific and Technical Information Network (STINET)<\/a><\/b>The main menu includes a \u201cMultiSearch\u201d covering a range of federal databases and \u201cDTIC (Defense Technical Information Center) Collections\u201d which provides a quick search of defense information.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"energy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Energy<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>EnergyFiles:\u00a0Energy Science and Technology Virtual Library<br \/>\nEnergyFiles is no longer available. Included are pre-publication drafts of journal articles (preprints), scholarly papers, technical communications, or similar documents relaying research results among peer groups.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.osti.gov\/subjectportals\/\">Subject Specific Portals<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThese subject-specific web pages cover a range of energy topics including wind energy and vehicle technologies.\u00a0 Updated biweekly, they provide full text technical reports and more.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eia.doe.gov\/\">Energy Information Administration<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThe Energy Information Administration is a statistical agency of the U.S. Department of Energy. The EIA provides &#8220;policy-independent data, forecasts, and analyses to promote sound policy making, efficient markets, and public understanding regarding energy and its interaction with the economy and the environment.&#8221;\u00a0 This page provides energy information in a variety of search formats (i.e. geography, type of fuel, forecasts, analyses).\u00a0 It also includes a list of upcoming reports, a link to quick stats, and historical data.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"environment\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Environment<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/natlibra\/index.html\">EPA National Library Network Program<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThe Environmental Protection Agency provides this page of links to the 28 EPA libraries and their shared online catalog.\u00a0 All libraries are open to the public and some items may be available to check out via interlibrary loan.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/nscep\/index.html\">EPA\u00a0National Service Center for Environmental Publications<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThis site allows searching by document number or title.\u00a0A guide to EPA publication numbers is included.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/infotrek.er.usgs.gov\/pubs\/\">USGS Reports<\/a><\/b><br \/>\nThe U. The NTIS Collection of nearly 3 million titles includes: business and management studies, international marketing reports, materials and chemical science data, technology innovations, and training tools. The types of information found in the NTRS include: conference papers, journal articles, meeting papers, patents, research reports, images, movies, and technical videos.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/ia410331.us.archive.org\/peth04\/20041016080722\/http:\/\/www.sti.nasa.gov\/Pubs\/star\/Star.html\">Scientific and Technical Aerospace Reports\u00a0(STAR)<\/a><\/b>\u00a02003-2004\u00a0are available online free of charge.
