Each individual will work 1-2 evening shifts per week and rotate weekend shifts throughout the semester. Employees will not be expected to work during fall, winter, or spring break.<br \/>\n<strong>Academic Term(s) of Employment anticipated:\u00a0<\/strong>2026-2027 Academic Year<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><br \/>\nSSHEL is hiring three graduate hourly employees to work at the Information Services Desk during evening and weekend hours for the 2026-2027 academic year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Duties and Responsibilities\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as the lead staff in SSHEL, including supervision of undergraduate student employees.<\/li>\n<li>Answer patron questions in online and in-person formats, including staffing the Library\u2019s online Ask a Librarian chat service.<\/li>\n<li>Open or close the SSHEL library space<\/li>\n<li>Provide support for SSHEL operations through project work (examples include searching potential new titles in the library catalog and reviewing SSHEL web content).<\/li>\n<li>Other duties as assigned<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Required Qualifications <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bachelor\u2019s Degree<\/li>\n<li>Enrolled as Graduate Student in the School of Information Sciences Master\u2019s program for Library and Information Sciences (MSLIS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign for the 2026-2027 Academic Year<\/li>\n<li>Able to regularly work evening (up to midnight) hours on a weekly basis and weekend hours on a rotating basis throughout the semester.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work independently and communicate consistently with SSHEL staff, librarians, and graduate employees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Experience working in public, academic, or school libraries or archives.<\/li>\n<li>Experience with public services or customer services work<\/li>\n<li>Leadership or supervisory experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>* Graduate students with existing Library positions are welcome to apply, but please note that graduate students should not work more than 26.8 hours\/per week across all positions during fall and spring semesters.
